We are now going to show some other Spanish Prepositions and some other examples in order to finish this topic.<\/h1>\n

\u201cEn\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

en: in, on, inside, into, at (As you can guess, this preposition is crucial. \u201cEn\u201d could do function of those four English prepositions or even more, and the difference will depend on the context)<\/p>\n

– To indicate position above:<\/h2>\n

Ej: El p\u00e1jaro vuela en el aire (The bird fly in the air)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To indicate position \u201con\u201d:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Hay un poster en la pared (there is a poster hanging on the wall)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Las llaves est\u00e1n en la mesa (The keys are on the table)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To indicate postion \u201cinside\u201d \u201cin\u201d<\/h2>\n

Ej: El libro est\u00e1 en la mochila (the book is inside the rucksack) <\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hace fr\u00edo dentro de casa (It is cold inside home)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express manner:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Haz tu trabajo en silencio (Do your work in silence)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To indicate a period of time:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Odio que llueva en verano (I hate the rain in summer)<\/em><\/p>\n

–\u00a0 To indicate a point in the space:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Te veo en la plaza de Picadilly (I\u2019ll see you at Picadilly place)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To indicate an action \u201cwithin\u201d a period of time:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Lo termino en 3 horas (I will finish it in 3 hours)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express the way you transport \u201cby\u201d<\/h2>\n

Ej: Voy a trabajar en tranv\u00eda (I go to work by tram)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cEntre\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

entre: between, among (\u201centre\u201d translates the English words \u201cbetween\u201d or \u201camong\u201d but sometimes it could be confusing for an English student meaning something more similar to \u201cin the midst of\u201d)<\/p>\n

– To express that there is something in an intermediate position in the space (\u201cbetween\u201d)<\/h2>\n

Ej: Entre esta calle y esa hay un restaurante (There is a restaurant between this\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 street and that one)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em>\u00a1Mira! un gato entre esos dos coches (Look! There is a cat between those cars)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express a unspecified and approximate point in the space (\u201camong\u201d, \u201cin the midst of\u201d)<\/h2>\n

Ej: Hay ardillas entre los \u00e1rboles (There are squirrels through the trees)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To indicate there is a cooperation or joint action within a group causing an effect:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Si lo hacemos entre todos va a ser mejor (If we do it together it is going to be better)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express a situation of choice:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Tenemos que elegir entre las dos opciones (We have to choose between the two options)<\/em><\/p>\n

– Some idiomatic expressions:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Trabajo entre semana (I work from Monday to Friday)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Entre unas cosas y otras ya es tarde (Between one thing and another it is\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 getting late)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHacia<\/span><\/strong>\u201d<\/h1>\n

hacia= towards (This word express the idea of \u201cdirection towards\u201d approximately in space and time and to refer behaviour or attitudes respect something)<\/p>\n

Ej: Jose va hacia el aeropuerto en este momento (Jose is going towards the airport in this moment)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Estar\u00e9 en casa hacia la 10 (I will be at home about 10)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No tienes respeto hacia los mayores (You have no respect for the elders)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHasta<\/span><\/strong>\u201d<\/h1>\n

Hasta= until (We can translate \u201chasta\u201d for \u201cuntil\u201d in most of the cases but we should know that in other cases this word could do the function of: \u201cup to\u201d, \u201cas far as\u201d or \u201ceven\u201d.)<\/p>\n

– To express a time limit:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Voy a estar en Manchester hasta finales de Julio (I am going to stay in Manchester until the end of July)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 No trabajo hasta el martes (I am off until Tuesday)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To expres a physic limit (\u201cas far as\u201d \u201cup to\u201d):<\/h2>\n

Ej: Vamos a correr hasta el finaldelparque (Let\u2019s run up to the end of the park)<\/p>\n

-To express that something or someone is include (\u201ceven\u201d):<\/h2>\n

Ej: En Espa\u00f1a le gusta el jamon hasta a los perros (In Spain, everuboody like ham even the dogs)<\/em><\/p>\n

– \u201cHasta\u201d is frequently used in several idiomatic expressions:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Hasta ma\u00f1ana (see you tomorrow)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hasta luego (see you later)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hasta pronto (see you soon)<\/em><\/p>\n

– \u201cHasta\u201d + infinitive to express a limit in time (\u201cuntil (do)ing\u2026\u201d)<\/h2>\n

Ej: No juegas hasta terminar los deberes (You won\u2019t play until finishing your homework)<\/p>\n

No par\u00f3 hasta conseguir su objetivo (He\/she didn\u2019t stop until he achieved his\/her target)<\/p>\n

\u201cMediante\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

Mediante= \u201cby means of\u201d, \u201cthrough\u201d,\u201cby using\u201d, \u201cby adopting\u201d (this word express in which way or manner something is done)<\/p>\n

Ej: Aprendi\u00f3 espa\u00f1ol mediante traducciones (He\/she lernt Spanish by translations)<\/em><\/p>\n

Mediante trabajo y esfuerzo conseguimos la victoria (Through work and effort we got the win)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cPara\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Para= for, by, to, in order to (This is one of the most common prepositions with many uses. We can brief saying this prepositions is specially used to express destination or even destiny)<\/p>\n

-To indicate destination:<\/h2>\n

Ej: \u00c9l sali\u00f3 para Madrid esta ma\u00f1ana (He went to Madrid this morning)<\/em><\/p>\n

Se ha ido para casa (He\/she has gone home)<\/p>\n

– To show the use or purpose of anything:<\/h2>\n

Ej: El lapiz es para escribir (The pencil is used to write) <\/em><\/p>\n

Jugamos para ganar (We play to win)<\/p>\n

– To mean \u201cin order to\u201d or \u201cfor the purpose of\u201d:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Para hacer paella primero cueza arroz (You need to boil the rice in order to cook paella)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tengro que practicar para aprender espa\u00f1ol (I need practising to learn Spanish)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To inidicate a recipient:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Este regalo es para ti (this present is for you)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Tengo un libro para tu hermano (I have a book for your brother)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express a deadline or specific time:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Necesito el coche para el s\u00e1bado (I need the car by Saturday)<\/em><\/p>\n

Quiero el trabajo terminado para el lunes (I want the work done by Monday)<\/p>\n

– To express a contrast from what is expected:<\/h2>\n

Ej: No est\u00e1 mal para ser tu primer d\u00eda (It is not bad to be your first day)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Hablas bien espa\u00f1ol para ser ingles (You speak Spanish quite well to be English)<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cPor\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Por= for, by<\/p>\n

– To express gratitude or apology:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Gracias por tu ayuda (Thanks for your help)<\/em><\/p>\n

–\u00a0To multiply and divide:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Dos por dos son cuatro (Two times two equals four)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express velocity, frequency and proportion:<\/h2>\n

– In case of mistaken identity or meaning \u201cto be seen as\u201d:<\/h2>\n

Ej: Me toman por loco (They take me for crazy)<\/em><\/p>\n

– To express actions like: ir (to go), venir (to come back), volver(to come), pasar(to pass), mandar(to order), preguntar (ask for):<\/h2>\n
