Another Spanish lesson with numbers 1 to 10

In this blog we are going to show how to deliver a Spanish Tuition in Manchester for Key stage 2.

You can also use the previous lesson or you could do one lesson from the two. Of course all this depends on the way you do and how long are your lessons.

Más números del 1 al 10 / More Numbers 1 to 10

Starter:

  • Usual greetings to the children. ¿Qué tal? (How are you?) or Buenas tardes.

Main activities:

  • Comment few mistakes from all the corrections done from their work done in the previous Spanish lesson.

  • Focus on the c in cinco and the z in diez. Sound detective activity Explain that z in Spanish is always pronounced like th in think and that c sometimes makes the same sound. Same as before ask children if they can find out some words and make two columns. They could prepare this themselves. (If time available)

  • We are now going to play another track (una oca, dos ocas, etc).
  • Children listen and repeat with the teacher in Spanish.
  • The children should try to write the sequence of number and words so they practise writing these from memory just from listening the sounds.
  • This track is played several times. Then we correct this on the board so everybody has got the correct answer.
  • As a cultural activity  the meaning of Piñata was explained in the class.

Final Activities:

  • Say adiós, hasta luego, hasta la vista to the children

In this Spanish lesson children should learn:

  • To listen and respond to simple rhymes.
  • To recognise and respond to sound patterns and words.
  • To recognise and apply simple agreements, eg gender, singular, plural.
  • To play games to help to remember
  • To perform simple communicative tasks using simple words, phrases and short sentences.
  • To imitate pronunciation
  • To repeat words rhythmically

The objectives of this lesson are:

  • To pronounce numbers 1 to10 accurately
  • To begin to recognise that, when simple plurals are made, the pronunciation of the noun remains the same.

You can also practice the numbers with your class listening this short videos:

Spanish Interrogatives – Part 3

Finally in this post we are going to explain last group of Spanish Interrogatives.

“Cuánto / Cuánta / Cuántos / Cuántas ”

All of them are translated as “how much” or “how many”. We will use one of them depending on the gender or number of the noun which it describes. As you know, in Spanish is very important to keep all the words adjacent to the noun agreeing in gender and number.

- ¿Cuánto vale esta camiseta? (How much is this t-shirt?)

- ¿Cuántos apellidos tienen los españoles? (How many surnames do the Spaniards have?)

- No sé cuántas salchichas hay en el plato (I don’t know how many sausages there are on the plate)

“Cuánto” in Spanish can also be combined with prepositions:

- ¿De cuántos alumnus estamos hablando? (How many students we are talking about?)

- ¿En cuántos países has estado? (How many countries have you been?)

“Quién / Quiénes”

“Quién” and “Quiénes” in Spanish can only be referred to people. As you can guess, the second one is the plural form of the first one. We will use them in the same way we use “who” in English.

- ¿Quién quiere un bocadillo? (Who want a sandwich?)

- No sé quién es Julian (I don’t Know who Julian is)

In Spanish they can go with prepositions, here you have some examples:

- ¿A quién has venido a ver? (Who have you come to see?)

- ¿Para quién es este regalo? (Who is this gift for?)

“Por qué” and “Para qué”

In Spanish, we will use “por qué” to ask “why” and it is much more used than “para qué”. We can translate the last one as “for what” and we will use it only to allude to the purpose or intention.

¿Por qué no aprender español? (Why don’t you learn Spanish?)

No entiendo por qué no viajas (I don’t understand why you don’t travel more)

¿Para qué vas a Málaga? (what do you go to Málaga for?)

We hope we helped with the Spanish Interrogatives. (Spanish info)

Spanish Interrogatives – Part 1

Interrogatives, “interrogativos” in Spanish are words used to ask questions to get an specific information from the subject who is asked.

These are the main interrogatives in Spanish:

- Qué (What)

- Cómo (How)

- Cuál / Cuales (Which)

- Dónde (Where)

- Cuando (When)

- Cuanto / Cuanta / Cuantos / Cuantas (How much / How many)

- Quién / Quiénes (Who)

- Por qué (Why)

- Para qué (For what)

Most of the cases you will be able to use the interrogatives above to ask in the same way you do in English, but there is a important difference in the way we ask in Spanish, this is the word order.

In English, the word order in interrogative sentences is normally inverted respect the affirmations.

Meaning that the verb usually comes before the subject. However, word order is quite free in Spanish existing even regional differences.

This could seem to add difficulty to the business but it does not because you can ask using the same structure that you do when you build a positive sentence and make the difference by changing the intonation.

There is another important thing that maybe you have noticed already, the questions marks.

In Spanish, you should remember to put question mark not only at the end of the question but at the beginning as well.

¿Qué?

  • Refers to a noun which is yet unidentified or unknown. When we ask “qué” you are asking “what thing?” Examples:
  • ¿Qué hay en la bolsa? (What is there in the bag?)
  • No sé qué decir (I don’t know what to say)
  • ¿Qué día es hoy? (what day is today?)

“Qué” as “what” can go with prepositions and you should know as we saw in the section of prepositions that they go at the beginning of the question unlike in English.

  • ¿De qué quieres hablar? (What do you want to talk about?)
  • ¿En qué piensas?) (What are you thinking about?)

“Cómo”

When we ask “cómo” we are asking “how” asking for an explanation to understand the way something is or “what…like?” Let’s see a few examples:

  • ¿Cómo estas? (How are you?)
  • ¿Cómo se dice “friend” en español? (How do you say friend in Spanish?)
  • ¿Cómo es tu novia? (What your girlfriend look like?)
